3 FACES OF MAASTRICHT

Maastricht Has More Faces Than You’d Think!

The city can roughly be divided into three parts – each with its own unique vibe.

🔹 To the left of the St. Servaas Bridge, you'll find the old, elegant side of Maastricht. Think: French flair, Romanesque influences, and the timeless charm of stately homes and quiet grandeur.

🔹 On the right of the Wilhelmina Bridge, a new energy pulses through the city: sports, creativity, design, food & drinks. This is where the nouveau riche live, alongside young entrepreneurs and energetic locals.

🔹 And in between, right in the middle, is the city’s beating heart of tourism – lively squares, wide shopping streets, culture and fine dining.

naMaaStay is located right in that center zone – in the heart of Maastricht. From here, everything is just a 15–20 minute walk: the city center, Wyck, the Markt, or even the Groene Loper.

Speaking of the Groene Loper: it’s a unique urban boulevard inspired by Paris’ famous avenue to the Eiffel Tower. Definitely worth strolling at least once!

About us

naMaaStay is one of the trading names of Teaching Guesthouse Maastricht B.V. (TGHM), a young organization with a clear goal: to build a bridge between housing, learning, and hospitality. TGHM was founded to offer students in and around Maastricht a unique opportunity: to gain hands-on experience in hospitality by actively participating in the operation of temporary housing and guest concepts.

The legal entity is managed by E.H.M. (Marlies) Jacobs, with Dick de Nijs as lead administrator. Dick is also the first partner to join the initiative as a private landlord. His involvement stems from his background as a lecturer at the Hotel Management School Maastricht, where he guided first-year students and prepared them for their international internships. From setting up hotel businesses to simulating operations and teaching management accounting and investment thinking – the central theme was always: learning by doing.

That is precisely the essence of this experiment. Because how do you truly learn entrepreneurship? By experiencing it. Students who join the guesthouse project are given the opportunity to take on various roles: from host to event coordinator, from property manager to bookkeeper. It is a journey of discovery in which students learn to find their place, to collaborate, and to take responsibility – all within a safe learning environment where making mistakes is part of the process.

Teaching Guesthouse Maastricht B.V. works with private landlords, many of whom are members of the Maastricht Association of Landlords (VVVM). Most properties are managed by Prohousing Management, led by alumnus Bermon Pooters (Hotel Management School Maastricht). The South Limburg properties where naMaaStay started are also managed under this structure.

The team itself is a mix of students, tenants, and co-managers – meaning guests are often in direct contact with a student acting as their host. This creates a dynamic learning environment with real-life practice at its core – and gives students the chance to earn (part of) their stay through their contribution to the guesthouse project.

What began as a response to the growing shortage of temporary housing for students and teachers has evolved into an innovative learning and living experiment that brings the hospitality industry and education closer together – all within the framework of what is possible in Maastricht.
